Getting to know the ingredients:
Elderberries: Elderberries, when used in certain foods, have been shown to boost immunity, decrease mucus production during colds and fight the flu. Properly known as Sambucus, it is a genus of flowering plants in the family Adoxaceae. Elderberries are small, dark berries that grow in clusters on elder trees (also called elderberry bushes), and are very common throughout Europe and North America.
Ginger: Prized for its medicinal and culinary properties in Asian cultures for thousands of years, ginger, also known as ginger root, is an underground rhizome. Not only does Ginger add flavor and balance to the elderberry syrup, but it also adds health benefits that may reduce nausea and inflammation.
Cloves: Cloves are the flower buds of the clove tree, an evergreen also known as Syzygium aromaticum. We use whole cloves in our syrup. Similar to the ginger, cloves do more than add a sweet and aromatic flavor, they help boost the immune system and aid in digestion.
Cinnamon: There are many health benefits of cinnamon, some being that it’s a high source of Antioxidants and can help fight infections and viruses. However, the type of cinnamon is important – Ceylon cinnamon is more potent and beneficial than the Cassia variety. We use Ceylon bark in our syrup for those wondering.
Honey: Raw local honey is amazing. Not only does it add sweetness and flavor to our syrup, it is another great source of antioxidants. Honey is also filled with phytonutirants, these provide both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, which help maintain good health. In addition, our honey is from the Piney Woods region and may help reduce regional allergies.
